BALTIMORE – Georgetown University’s men’s lacrosse team dropped its 2024 season opener with an 18-10 setback on the road at Loyola on Saturday afternoon. The No. 11/12 Hoyas fall to 0-1 on the year while the Greyhounds improve to 1-0.
Hoya Highlights
• Jordan Wray led the Hoyas with a career-high five goals • Patrick Crogan had two goals while TJ Haley scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists. • Alexander Vardaro added a goal and an assist in his first game as a Hoya. • James Ball won 16 of 22 (.727) faceoffs and added five ground balls. • In goal, Anderson Moore had eight saves in cage for his collegiate debut. How It Happened • Georgetown jumped on the board first, winning the opening faceoff and scoring 1:02 into the game off of the first of Crogan’s two goals. Loyola responded with four-straight goals to lead 4-1 before the Hoyas closed out the opening frame 2-1 to pull within a pair down 5-3. • In the second, Loyola scored the first three goals of the quarter before GU got back-to-back goals from Wray in a 1:02 span to make it 8-5. Following a Greyhound goal, Wray collected a rebound and completed his second quarter hat trick with just seven seconds remaining, but Loyola scored on the ensuing possession with less than a second remaining to take a 10-6 lead into halftime. • Coming out of the break, the two teams traded goals but the Hoyas couldn’t make a dent in the Loyola lead as the Greyhounds led 13-8 with 15 minutes to play. • Trading goals early, the Blue & Gray couldn’t break Loyola’s five-goal lead before their hosts scored three unanswered goals to close out the game. Loyola Notes • Evan James led the Greyhounds with five goals and four assists for nine points. • Adam Poitras added four goals and an assist while Matthew Minicus had four goals. • Luke Staudt collected 11 saves between the pipes for the win. Hoya Notes • Haley moved into a tie for 21st place on Georgetown’s all-time scoring list, matching Rickey Mirabito’s 124 career points. • Will Tominovich moved into the top-10 all-time on the Hilltop with his 41st career caused turnover.
