It was a beautiful day for lacrosse in the nation’s capital, and Chrome LC (1-5) would have one final chance to avenge their loss on June 29 when Chaos LC (4-2) defeated them in OT by the score of 15-14. They would get their revenge and defeat them in rare fashion and hands down by the score of 19-11 in the highest scoring game in PLL history.
The only time Chaos held the lead in this game was at the 6:06 mark in the first. From there on out, it was all Chrome.
Josh Byrne (1g) would get Chaos on the board in the first with his 12th of the season. Jordan MacIntosh (5g) of Chrome would come from behind the cage to score and tie it up at one apiece. Connor Fields (4g) who was tied for second in the league in goals would give Chaos their last lead in the contest 2-1 at the 6:06 mark and from there on out, Chrome would control the game. They would go on a three-goal run to close out the first. Jordan Wolf (4g) would score on the power-play to tie it up again 2-2; Justin Guterding (2g) would give them their first lead 3-2 and they never looked back; and Wolf would score with 26 seconds left in the first. Score at the end of one: Chrome 4—Chaos 2.
Starting off the second, Chrome would score only 12 seconds in off the face-off win by Simoneau as John Moderski (1g) would get his only goal of the game. Chaos would go on a two goal run with Jake Froccaro (3g); and Eric Scott scoring to get them to within one 5-4. But Chrome would go on yet another four-goal run. Ned Crotty (2g) would score on the speed dodge; MacIntosh; Drew Simoneau (1g) straight off the face-off with his first PLL goal of the season; and MacIntosh to close it out for the hat-trick. Brett Queener would come out half way into the second with an injury and John Galloway would stand between the pipes and did an amazing job not allowing a single goal for the remainder of the first half. Score at the end of the first half: Chrome 9—Chaos 4.
Chaos would stop the run and score three in a row. Connor Fields would score back-to-back goals, the second a beautiful behind-the-back goal giving him the hat-trick as the shot clock was set to expire getting them to within three 9-6. Froccaro on the give and go got them to within two 9-7, but Chrome halted the run. On the Chrome double-team, somehow Jordan Wolf found a way to break through with the shot for the hat-trick putting them back up by three 10-7. Kevin Buchanan (1g) would score once for Chaos 10-8, but that didn’t stop the momentum or drive of the Chrome squad. They would go on yet another three-goal run, this one started by Ranagan; then Joel White only 14 seconds later with his first career PLL goal as he got the good read off the face-off; and Guterding on the power-play 13-8. Froccaro would stop the run 14 seconds later with his second in the frame 13-9. But it would be Chrome who would close it out again with Crotty for his second and final on the afternoon putting them up by five. Score at the end of three: Chrome 14—Chaos 9.
With only 12 minutes left in the final meeting of the two teams this season, Chaos had one final chance for a comeback…could they do it? Chrome would start it off this time, with Wolf notching his fourth on the day 15-9. Fields would come back with a nice one-handed goal, also his fourth on the day closing the gap to five. Mike Bocklet (1g), who made his PLL debut today after being claimed from Redwoods LC in the Player Pool on June 28, would score his first PLL goal with 6:48 left in the contest and it would turn out to be the last goal scored by Chaos 15-11. From that point forward, all Chaos could do was watch as Chrome put up another four in a row. MacIntosh would score on the power-play with 4:18 left; Simon Mathias (2g) would get his first with 3:24 left; MacIntosh would get an unbelievable goal off a behind-the-back goal right as the shot clock expired with 1:52 left; and Mathias would get the final goal of the contest with 1:01 remaining. Final Score: Chrome 19—Chaos 11.
