Lacrosse is Awesome
The 2017 MLL All-Star game has come and gone and we’re in the midst of another successful year in the sport of professional lacrosse. Fans that were in attendance got to see the best in the game play the sport they love the most. Final Score in OT: Stripes 21–Stars 20.
Just to watch lacrosse, see the action, the finesse and the talent these players have is amazing to say the least. Photographing the game of lacrosse takes many years of practice. You have to learn how the players react; the teams; how they set up for the shot and ultimately if all goes as planned, a goal. Having covered lacrosse since 2009, from club, to high school and all the way up to the professional level, the sport never ceases to amaze me.
Some say it’s an easy game, that anyone can do it. For that we as lacrosse fans say “show me”. It takes talent to run in a full sprint down the field with your back to your teammate who is set to pass the ball to you, time it perfectly so that you can turn around at the last second and catch what is close to the size of a tennis ball in a plastic frame called a “lacrosse head” with a mesh net in it on either a 48″ or 60″ stick.
We as lacrosse photographers have seen it all and caught on film some of the most exciting and unbelievable plays around, plays that fans may miss during the actual game. That’s why our photo galleries are larger than most. Our photographers, Tam L. Williams; John Zumbado and myself Di Miller have done this for years and we’ve learned how to catch that shot that with the naked eye that you may just miss.
Sports photography has got to be one of the hardest things to film. Many try, some fail and some show true greatness, just like the men who made the 2017 MLL All-Star Teams.
