No. 2-Seeded Delaware Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Top-Seeded Towson in CAA Championship, 15-6 May 4, 2024

TOWSON, Md. – The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team fell to top-seeded Towson 15-6 in the 2024 CAA Championship, Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After about seven minutes of scoreless action in the first quarter, Towson took a 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals from Chop Gallagher and Bode Maurer. Maurer added one more before McCurry answered for the Hens to cut the deficit to two, 3-1, with 3:26 left. The Tigers added a fourth goal with 12 seconds left to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • In the second, Cam Acchione found nylon at the 13:34 mark on an assist from Ward to cut the Towson lead to 4-2. The Tigers outscored the Hens 5-1 before the break with UD’s third goal of the game coming from Owings who found the top left corner of the Towson net. The Tigers took a 9-3 lead into the locker room.
  • In the third, the Tigers held the Hens to just one goal and tallied five goals for the second quarter in a row, outscoring Delaware 10-3 between the second and third quarters.
  • Robinson led off the fourth with his 40th goal of the year to cut it to a nine-goal deficit at 14-5. Despite Owings’s second goal of the contest at the 2:30 mark, Delaware dropped its second straight game to the Tigers.

GAME NOTES

  • Robinson, Ellington, and Hank D’Ambrogi were named to the All-Tournament Team.
  • Delaware’s three first half goals were the fewest goals scored in the first half this season.
  • UD’s six goals scored were tied for the fewest goals scored in a game this season.
