VILLANOVA, Pa. – Georgetown University’s men’s lacrosse team clinched the second seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP with a 12-4 victory over Villanova in the regular season finale on Friday night. The Hoyas improve to 10-3 on the season and 4-1 in BIG EAST play while the Wildcats fall to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in league action.
Hoya Highlights
- Graham Bundy Jr. led the Hoyas with four goals while TJ Haley had a goal and five assists.
- Alexander Vardaro had two goals with three assists and Chase Llewellyn scored twice.
- Aidan Carroll tallied a goal and an assist, Patrick Crogan and Kade Goldberg both found the back of the net twice and Jack Leary posted an assist.
- James Ball won 12 of 18 (.667) faceoffs and collected four ground balls.
- Defensively, Georgetown’s defense held its 11th-straight opponent to 10 goals or fewer and to the lowest goals against this season.
- The Hoyas were credited with 13 caused turnovers on the night, including two each from Ty Banks, Wesley Chairs and Dylan Hess. Georgetown held Villanova scoreless for spans of 13:01 and 37:01 throughout the game.
- In goal, Anderson Moore (10-3) had seven saves in the win to go with four ground balls.
How It Happened
- Villanova struck first in the opening frame before the Hoyas responded with a pair of goals to take the lead at 2-1. The Wildcats knotted things up at 2-2, but unanswered goals from Haley and Bundy gave the Blue & Gray a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes.
- Back-to-back goals from the Hoyas within 45 seconds of each other, along with a man-up goal from Carroll, in the second gave GU a 6-2 lead before Villanova cut the five-goal run with 8:25 remaining in the half. Georgetown then closed out the frame with two goals from Llewellyn, both assisted by Haley, to lead 9-3 going into halftime
- Coming out of the break, Georgetown netted the only two goals of the third quarter including a diving goal from Bundy with one second remaining. The Hoyas blanked Villanova in the frame.
- In the fourth, Bundy scored his fourth goal of the game with 10:58 to play while Georgetown held its host scoreless until 1:24 left on the clock, a span of more than 37 minutes going back to the second quarter.

- Matt Licata scored two goals for Villanova in the loss.
- Stephen Zupicich had four caused turnovers and five ground balls.
- Anthony Wilson had nine saves in the loss.
