Matt Kavanagh had two goals and four assists to help the U.S. men’s team to a 22-2 victory over Towson during the Team USA Fall Classic.
SPARKS, Md. — On Saturday night, the U.S. men’s national team got pushed to the brink against defending NCAA champion Maryland before pulling out a 10-9 victory. On Sunday, Team USA started hot and never let off the gas in a 22-2 win over Towson, a 2017 NCAA semifinalist.
The U.S. won the first eight faceoffs of the game, led 8-0 after the first quarter and didn’t commit its first turnover until more than 32 minutes into the game in a complete victory.
Will Manny poured in seven goals to lead the U.S. offense and was aided by Matt Kavanagh (2g, 4a), Dylan Molloy (1g, 4a), Jake Froccaro (3g, 1a), Myles Jones (2g, 2a), Connor Buczek (3g) and Ryan Brown (2g).

For the second straight night, the U.S. team trio of Trevor Baptiste (7-of-8), Greg Gurenlian (11-of-12) and Tom Kelly (5-of-6) dominated the faceoffs to keep the U.S. in control of the ball.
The U.S team split its 48-member roster for the two weekend games with the exception of the three faceoff midfielders, who all played in both games.
Towson, which is replacing 11 seniors, including six MLL draft picks from last year’s team, got goals from Timmy Monahan and Zach Goodrich and Shane Brennan and Josh Miller combined to make 16 saves.
The U.S. team will get together in January for a training weekend at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. That will mark the final time the team plays again before leaving for training camp and the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship, which takes place from July 12-21 in Netanya, Israel.
