Lacrosse is Awesome
On Wednesday October 19, 2016, the Metropolitan State University of Denver Men’s Lacrosse team faced the Colorado School of Mines at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. It was a chilly night and a bit windy, but diehard fans showed up nonetheless. MSU and Mines have had a rivalry going for several years now and it’s been a battle hard fought. MSU is under the first year with new Head Coach Daniel Hunter. Coach Hunter has put together an amazing squad of players with talents abound. His coaching techniques are second to none. He’s respected by the players and from what I have seen so far in the only two games they have played, they will be a force to be reckoned with when the 2017 season starts. Final Score: MSU 15—Mines 11.
The game would start off with Mines putting up the first notch on the board. But Metro would quickly answer back. It was a back and forth battle during the first 15 minutes of play with the score at the end of the first 4-4. Bryson Olejnik wasn’t in goal that night due to a back injury, but their back-up net minder filled his shoes well. Staving off shot after shot. The offense looked great, were aggressive going to cage and firing on all cylinders. Several players took the ball at “X” showing the depth and ability of the team.
At the half, the score was tied 8-8. But heading into the third quarter, MSU would burn up the field and never looked back. Although the Mines offense had shots on goal, they couldn’t put it between the pipes. Tempers flared a bit as the game progressed, but all in all it was a clean game. Final Score: MSU 15—Mines 11.
The Roadrunners would see goals from Logan Bruss; Kyle Miller; Mitch Larsen; Joshua Davis; Adam Legaretta; Anthony SanFillipo and several more.
The Roadrunners defense is working well together as well. Joey Huntley who plays LSM has been on fire. He’s aggressive on the wing and his speed and agility give him an even bigger advantage. Raquib Hakeem who also plays long pole continues to cause turnovers allowing Metro to pick up the ground balls, head down the field and put it through the pipes.
Metro heads up to Ft. Collins this weekend to play in the CSU tournament on Saturday October 29, 2016. The way the squad is playing this fall, I see them doing very well in the tournament as well as being successful in the Spring of 2017.
