TOWSON, Md. – After claiming the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Regular Season Championship on Saturday with an 8-7 win at Hofstra, the Towson men’s lacrosse team climbed in all three national polls this week.
With its 4-1 record in the CAA, the Tigers (12-2) claimed the regular season title and the right to host the CAA Tournament this Thursday and Saturday at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
In the Nike Lacrosse/USILA Coaches’ Poll, the Tigers moved up one spot to No. 11, claiming 152 points and were the only conference program mentioned in the Week 11 poll. Denver held the top spot this week with 315 points and 11 first place tallies, while Brown was second with 301 points and four first place votes. Maryland was picked third behind 294 points and one first place vote.
Towson, which won 12 games for a second-straight season, jumped two spots in this week’s Cascade/Maverik Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, sitting at 11th this week. The Tigers garnered 264 points to move up from 13th last week. The top three in the Media Poll were the same as the Coaches’ Poll for a second-straight week. Towson was the only CAA team to garner attention in this week’s Media Poll.
This week’s Nike Lacrosse/Lacrosse Magazine Top 20 saw the Tigers move up one slot to 10th in the country. CAA foe and No. 3 seed in the upcoming league tournament, Hofstra, was mentioned in the Top 20 this week, picking up votes. Denver, Brown and Maryland held the top three spots in the Lacrosse Magazine rankings this week as well.
Towson kicks off the 2016 CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Thursday with a 4 p.m. clash against long-time rival Drexel. Second-seeded Fairfield takes on the three seed, Hofstra, at 7 p.m. The 2016 CAA Championship will begin on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on the American Sports Network.
