Garden City, NY (April 27, 2016) – The New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have executed a trade with the Denver Outlaws that will bring the second round Collegiate Draft Pick, Stephen Jahelka, to New York in exchange for defenseman Mike Skudin.
The Lizards will also acquire Denver’s 10 th Round 2017 Collegiate Draft pick but give up their 8 th Round 2017 Draft Pick.
In the three season that Skudin was a part of the Lizards, he played 32 games and picked up 43 ground balls. He also assisted the 2015 team to the MLL title.
“Mike is a tremendous professional and person. He is someone who cracked into the league my first year and turned out to be a great player and a big part of our Championship. I wish him the best of luck in Denver,” said Lizards Head Coach, Joe Spallina.
Before Harvard, Jahelka was named the Garden City lacrosse MVP in 2010 and 2011, and was ranked the number one defenseman and overall number six by ESPN.
As a freshman at Harvard, Jahelka led Harvard with 17 caused turnovers and was tied for second with 33 groundballs. Both his junior and senior years, his teammates elected him as Harvard’s Men’s Lacrosse Team Captain and he was named to the Tewaarton Watch list. He was drafted by the Denver Outlaws in the 2 nd round (14 th overall) of the 2016 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Spallina added, “Stephen is a young, tough, close defenseman that can cover all types of attackmen. We think he has the potential to be a big time MLL player as he is skilled and plays with tremendous grit and toughness. He will be a great addition to our group.”
Jahelka will have his first opportunity to join the rest of the Lizards’ roster once his season with the Harvard Crimson closes out and he becomes eligible for Major League Lacrosse play.
