Towson’s White Named CAA Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week
March 8, 2016
RICHMOND, Va. – After backing the No. 6/No. 5 Towson men’s lacrosse team to a 2-0 week, redshirt senior Tyler White was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
It is the first weekly honor this year for White, who was a third team All-American last season. It is his first weekly award from the conference since Feb. 17, 2015. He is the third Tiger to collect weekly honors from the CAA, joining junior Joe Seider (Feb. 16) and redshirt freshman Ian Kirby (Feb. 23), who was named Rookie of the Week.
White, who hails from Elmira Heights, New York, had a standout week in goal for the Tigers, backstopping Towson to a 2-0 week, including a 10-8 victory on the road at No. 5 Loyola and a 14-6 home win over local rival UMBC. White made 19 saves last week, including 16 against the Greyhounds, just two stops shy of his career-high. Behind White’s play, Towson has not allowed an opponent to score double digits this season. The defending CAA Defensive Player of the Year, White finished the week with a 6.67 goals against average and a .613 save percentage.
Drexel freshman attackman Matthew Varian was tabbed as the league’s Rookie of the Week after scoring the Dragons’ game-winner as time expired against Saint Joseph’s.
For a third-straight game, the Tigers take on a local rival as Towson heads down Charles Street on Saturday to take on No.11/No. 14 Johns Hopkins. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Homewood Field. The game will be carried nationally on ESPNU with Paul Carcaterra and Booker Corrigan on the call.
