ROSEMONT, IL – Johns Hopkins sophomore attackman Shane Stanwick (Baltimore, MD/Boys’ Latin) and sophomore faceoff specialist Hunter Moreland (White Hall, MD/Boys’ Latin) have been named the Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week and Co-Specialist of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in Johns Hopkins’ 14-8 win against sixth-ranked Towson on Saturday. Johns Hopkins improved to 3-2 on the year with the victory against the Tigers.
Stanwick matched his career high for goals (4) and points (7) and totaled three assists to lead the way offensively for the Blue Jays. This is the second time Stanwick has notched seven points in the last three games as he had a two-goal, five-assist showing against North Carolina on February 28.
Stanwick pushed his season totals to nine goals and a team-high 17 assists for 26 points with his effort against the Tigers. He didn’t have a single three-assist game as a freshman, but has four such games and the five-assist performance against North Carolina already this season. Stanwick earns Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career and now leads the Big Ten in scoring at 5.2 points per game.
Moreland provided a spark on face-offs for the Blue Jays as he was 11-of-13 with three ground balls in the win against the Tigers. Moreland, who earns Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors for the first time in his career, has seen a majority of his action on the season in the last two games. He is 24-of-33 (.727) on face-offs thus far and counts nine ground balls to his credit.
Eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins welcomes third-ranked Syracuse (5-1) to Homewood Field on Saturday, March 19 for the 55th installment of one of the great rivalries in college lacrosse. Faceoff is set for 4 pm with a live national television audience on ESPNU.
