Although it was an away game for Boston University, you could see Nickerson Field from atop Harvard Stadium with the full moon lighting up the sky. BU Junior Cal Dearth made use of the moonlight and cheering fans to secure the win with his four goals and two assists including the final three to notch the win over Harvard 9-8.
Classmate Christian Carson-Banister made 13 saves as the Boston University men’s lacrosse team knocked off No. 14/15 on Tuesday night at Harvard Stadium.
Harvard lead by two-goals three times in the first quarter, but goals by Terriers Myers, Wilson and Farris cut the deficit to 4-3 when the first quarter ended.
The Crimson took a 5-4 lead with 9:05 left in the half but Terriers Bell struck his fourth of the season with 3:08 to play in the quarter to tie it up at the half.
Myers put BU in front for the first time this night sparking a 4-0 BU run. Dearth had the other three scores; including two in the fourth quarter to give the Terriers a 9-5 lead with 9:19 to play.
Harvard came back with three goals of its own, highlighted by a Morgan Cheek’s marker with 1:28 remaining. Despite a penalty on the play, Harvard was unable to score an equalizer thanks to Carson-Banister’s stop and a subsequent BU clear.
Terriers Junior Sam Talkow was 11-of-19 at the face-off X with six ground balls for BU. Boston scooped up 42 ground balls on the evening. BU was great in the clearing game, going 17-of-18.
BU will return to Patriot League play on Saturday when the Terriers travel to Lafayette. Harvard will host Dartmouth on the 26th at home.
