Towson’s Kirby Named CAA Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
RICHMOND, Va. – Another week into the 2016 season and another Towson men’s lacrosse student-athlete has collected a weekly award from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Redshirt freshman Ian Kirby was tabbed as the CAA Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday morning. He is the second Towson player this season to win a weekly award from the conference, joining last week’s CAA Player of the Week Joe Seider.
Hailing from Massapequa Park, New York, Kirby finished the week with a career-best two goals, both coming on man-up opportunities for the then No. 15 Tigers (2-0). Kirby has been a force on the extra man this season, scoring all three of his goals with the man advantage.
Kirby’s second goal in the Tigers’ 9-5 win over in-state foe Mount St. Mary’s proved to be the game-winner. Kirby was efficient in his second career game, scoring twice on just three total shots, all three of which were on goal.
The CAA announced a pair of Players of the Week in Sam Llinares (Hofstra) and Kevin Porzelt (Massachusetts) following their respective team’s top-20 upsets.
Towson wraps up a three-game home stand to open the season on Saturday against No. 17 Georgetown. Opening faceoff for the top-20 matchup is slated for noon at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
