Ben Rubeor will take over as Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Coach to join Cannons Coaches Quirk and Starsia.
Boston, MA (December 14, 2017) – The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) continue to bolster their coaching staff, adding former MLL star Ben Rubeor as Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Coach. Rubeor, a former attackman, has had a lot of success in many levels of lacrosse. He brings to the Cannons both an impressive playing and coaching resume.
Rubeor’s high school career was phenomenal at Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Maryland, where he was a four-time letterman in lacrosse and an All-American as a senior. After graduating from Loyola Blakefield in 2004, Rubeor went on to have a stellar lacrosse career at the University of Virginia from 2004 to 2008. In 2006, he helped lead the Cavaliers to a 17-0 record and a National Championship. Rubeor was also a three-time All-American at UVA, where he played under current Cannons Associate Head Coach Dom Starsia.
Rubeor’s professional career in the MLL was nothing short of stellar. He was drafted by the Long Island Lizards (now New York Lizards) 14th overall in 2008 and spent one season with them before joining the Chesapeake Bayhawks organization in 2009. In 94 career games, Rubeor scored 138 goals, one two-point goal, and 53 assists.
Rubeor was also a very effective player in the postseason. He won three Steinfeld Trophies with Chesapeake in 2010, 2012, and 2013, and was named the MVP of the 2012 Championship Game. Rubeor posted ten goals and eight assists in seven career playoff games. Overall, Rubeor was one of the best attackman to ever step foot in the MLL.

My family and I are moving to Boston, and I’m looking forward to becoming a part of the lacrosse community in New England.”
“Being reunited with Ben in Boston is a special joy for me. He was a great player and a real leader for us throughout his career at the University of Virginia. He was particularly outstanding in 2006 for an undefeated National Championship team. I was not surprised to see Ben quickly develop in to one of the top young coaches in the country. He is also an experienced MLL All-Star. This is a great fit for Boston and should just be the beginning of a long, fruitful relationship,” said Coach Starsia.
Not only has Rubeor had great success on the playing field, he has been very successful on the sidelines as well. He became the head coach of St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis in 2013 and led them to a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association ‘A’ Conference Championship in 2015. He resigned from St. Mary’s shortly after.
It did not take long for Rubeor to find himself on the sidelines once again. He returned to Loyola Blakefield prior to the 2016 season as the head coach of the Dons and assistant athletic director for the school. Since then, he has guided the Dons to the semifinals of the MIAA ‘A’ Conference playoffs twice and will be entering his third season in 2018. However, Rubeor will be stepping down from Loyola Blakefield after the 2018 season as he plans to move to Boston with his family.

With a national championship and three MLL titles to his name, the Cannons are excited to add Rubeor to the coaching staff and contend for a MLL Championship in 2018. He has been successful at every level of the game, both on the playing field and on the sidelines. Rubeor has had a storied career in lacrosse and the Cannons are looking forward to watching it continue in Boston.
