RICHMOND, Va. – After a career outing on Saturday, Towson men’s lacrosse midfielder Mike Lynch was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement Monday morning.
Lynch, who hails from Forest Hill, Maryland, earns his first CAA weekly honor after No. 10 Towson took down league-leading Fairfield 18-11 on Saturday. Fairfield’s Colin Burke was named CAA Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week.
A product from nearby Boys’ Latin School of Maryland, Lynch drilled five goals on Saturday, surpassing his previous career-high of two goals. The speedy midfielder tacked on an assist to his stat line for a career-best six points. It was an efficient day for Lynch, who helped the Tigers (11-2, 3-1 CAA) to their highest goal output in the Shawn Nadelen Era (2012). The junior scored his five goals on just seven total shots.
After scoring all five goals in the first half, Lynch became the first Towson player to post five markers in a game since Thomas DeNapoli did so against Marist on March 8, 2013. Lynch’s team-high five goals gave the Tigers’ the most goals in a CAA game since topping Sacred Heart 17-5 during the 2009 season.
Lynch and the Tigers head to Hempstead, New York for a clash of 3-1 conference teams. Towson takes on host Hofstra at 1 p.m. from Shuart Stadium. Towson could clinch the 2016 CAA Regular Season Championship with a win over the Pride and the right to host the 2016 CAA Championship at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
