WASHINGTON – Former Georgetown University standout Kyle Sweeney (B’03) was enshrined in the Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame over the weekend, joining the third class of inductees for the honor. Sweeney had previously been inducted to the USA Lacrosse National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in January as well.

As a professional, Sweeney put together a storied pro lacrosse career. Playing 15 seasons in Major League Lacrosse – winning four league championships – and 10 seasons in the National Lacrosse League, he was an All-Star 10 different times. On the international stage, Sweeney was a member of Team USA in 2006 and 2010, earning All World recognition after helping the U.S. to a gold medal in 2010.
Considered one of the greatest long-stick midfielders to ever play the game, Sweeney was a three-time United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American at Georgetown. He earned third team honors in 2001, first team accolades in 2002 and second team recognition in 2003. In addition, he was a three-time First Team All-ECAC performer, the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2000 and earned back-to-back ECAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2001 and 2002. He graduated from Georgetown in 2003 as the program’s all-time leader in career ground balls with 229.

Sweeney is the first Georgetown men’s lacrosse player to earn enshrinement in the Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He was joined by Brendan Mundorf, Josh Sims and Lee Zink in the Class of 2024.
