HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blue Hens set the tone early as McCurry put them on the board at the 13:40 mark. The Tigers made it a 1-1 contest with 6:44 to play in the quarter after a goal from Joaquin Villagomez. The Blue & Gold drew the final blow of the first quarter as Cam Acchione responded with a goal on McCurry’s only assist of the night to give UD a 2-1 lead headed to the second.
  • The back-and-forth action continued in the second quarter as the two squads traded blows for the middle portion of the quarter, but Robinson’s first goal of the night broke a 2-2 tie with 12:30 to go before the break. At the 9:45 mark, Towson’s Nick DeMaio tied the game for the contest’s third time as neither team could take more than a one-goal lead. Then with 2:02 left in the quarter and the Hens up 4-3, Tyler Owings sent a rocket past the Towson keeper to give Delaware its first two-score lead. Two minutes later, with two seconds on the clock, Robinson found nylon to give the Blue & Gold a 6-3 lead headed into the locker room.
  • In the third, it was all Tigers as Towson found the back of the net five times compared to just once for the Hens. Towson would take an 8-7 lead into the final quarter.
  • Just like the second, the fourth was a back-forth-battle as Robinson tied the game at 8-8 with his 180th-career goal, tying Delaware’s all-time record. Towson took a 9-8 lead shortly after, but Jessen responded with his only goal of the night to knot the game at 9-9. It was Robinson’s record-setting goal that gave Delaware their last lead of the night, putting the Hens up 10-9 with 7:21 to play. Towson answered with goals at the 4:21 and 1:31 marks and held the lead to the final horn.

GAME NOTES

  • Delaware’s former goals record of 162 held by Curtis Dickson, lasted for 13 years before Tye Kurtz broke it in April of 2023. Kurtz’s new record of 180 then lasted only 12 months until Robinson set a new record of 181 and counting.
  • Ward’s 49 straight games with at least one point is tied for the third longest streak in program history.
  • Cam Acchione has scored a goal in eight straight games and recorded an assist in five straight.
