Calgary, AB – The Calgary Roughnecks were defeated by the Toronto Rock Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, in the first of a two-game series this season.
It was a goal-for-goal game to start with both teams tied at 3 to end the first quarter, with Calgary goals coming from Haiden Dickson, Tyler Pace and Thomas Hoggarth. Toronto pulled ahead in the second notching three while Dickson scored the lone marker for Calgary.
Toronto continued to lead through the 3rd quarter, with Dickson keeping Calgary within three with a hat-trick goal. Despite opening the final frame with two quick goals from Tanner Cook and Jesse King, the Roughnecks were ultimately unable to close the gap.
Tanner Cook led the offense in points tonight with 4 (1g, 3a). Haiden Dickson scored his first hat-trick of the season and continues to lead the team in goals with 16. Zach Currier scooped 13 loose balls for Calgary, his highest number so far this season.
The Roughnecks outshot the Rock 45-41, with Christian Del Bianco making 32 saves and adding two assists, bringing his season total to 6.
The Roughnecks have a chance to even the score next week when they travel east to meet the Rock at home, on Saturday February 10th. Fans can catch the action on TSN+, face-off is set for 5:00pm mst.
