Bear Davis will enter into his seventh year as the head coach and general manager of the  Ohio Machine. We sat down with Coach Davis to hear what he and the Machine are looking forward to at the  2019 Collegiate Draft presented by Cascade this year.

How are you preparing for the 2019 MLL Draft?
Our coaching staff is spending time at practices and scrimmages around the country. We are also looking over plenty of game film from this past year.   Do you have any superstitions around Draft Day?
Yes never sit in front of Coach Joe Spallina if at all possible. I am pretty sure I have caught him looking over my shoulder in the past.  But it could have been that he was wondering what I was drinking?  I am still not sure so I figure why chance it.

Who from your team will be assisting you with the Draft this year?
Daryl Delia (Offensive Coordinator)
Bart Sullivan (Defensive Coordinator)
Eric Genova (Face Off Unit & Analytics)
And Me (Bear Davis, Head Coach, and General Manager)

Is there a style of play or a personality you consider when drafting?
We are always looking for someone who is a self-motivated person.  One who loves the game and you can see it in their style of play. If they are from Ohio that is a bonus.

Who are the top prospects for the Ohio Machine?
Pat Spencer (Loyola)
Brad Smith (Duke)
Brent Noseworthy (Michigan)

What would someone at the draft expect to hear?
“Can he play multiple positions?” I think we are all going to be looking for value picks!

Which college team do you think has the strongest senior class?
Pretty spread out this year, to be honest.

Which college team do you think will win it all this year?
Yale for the repeat?

What do you think of the MLL Draft taking place at the NASCAR Hall of Fame this year?
I think it is a cool concept.  We both have the need for speed.

Where should the 2020 MLL Draft take place?
I think we should do it in Hawaii.  We need to show the rainbow state some love. #GrowTheGame

Bear Davis is entering his seventh season with the Ohio Machine. Davis lead the Machine to their first playoff appearance in 2014, the semi-finals in 2016 and a National Championship in 2017.
Prior to joining the Machine full-time, Davis was the head boy’s lacrosse coach and associate athletic director at Archbishop Spalding High School (Md.). Davis took over at Archbishop Spalding after building the men’s lacrosse program at Robert Morris University over the span of seven seasons as the program’s first-ever head coach. Robert Morris led the NCAA in scoring offense for two straight seasons under Davis. Prior to Robert Morris, Davis helped start the Wheeling Jesuit men’s lacrosse program and guided the Cardinals to a No. 10 national ranking in 2003.
