This week the Rochester Knighthawks (1-3) took on the Saskatchewan Rush (3-1) at the Sasktel Centre in front of 13,590 Rush fans. Rochester was looking to get back to their winning ways after dropping two straight since there home opening win. The Knighthawks would come out strong, but it wouldn’t be enough to overpower the defending NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush. Final Score: Rochester-7, Saskatchewan-12.
The Rush would get the scoring started in the first quarter of play. Ryan Keenan (1G) scored his only goal of the night to put Saskatchewan up 1-0. Rochester would then answer with back to back scores coming from Joe Resetarits (2G, 2A) and Cody Jamieson (2G, 2A) to put the Knighthawks ahead 2-1. Saskatchewan would then answer with their own back to back scores. Both goals were scored by Mark Matthews (3G, 4A) to put the Rush ahead once again 3-2 at the end of the first period.
Neither team would gain an advantage in the second period of play as the Knighthawks and Rush would each net three scores. Once again, it was the Rush getting things started as Robert Church (2G, 5A) and Curtis Knight (1G) put Saskatchewan ahead 5-2. Rochester would then rattle off two scores. The first came from Resetarits, his second of the night, and the second from Kyle Jackson (2G) to put Rochester within one goal. Saskatchewan’s third and final score of the half came from Mike Messenger (2G). Rochester’s Jackson netted his second score of the quarter with 2:45 remaining but the Rush still had the lead 6-5 heading into the half.
The Rochester Knighthawks stumbled to find the back of the net in the third quarter. The Rush took advantage and outscored the Knighthawks 5-0. Matthews scored first on a power play opportunity. Matthew Dinsdale (1G, 3A) scored next, followed by two goals from Ben McIntosh (2G, 2A). Messenger scored the fifth goal and Saskatchewan led Rochester 11-5 going into the fourth quarter.
Rochester finally found some offense in the fourth quarter. Jamieson scored first, followed by a goal from Corey Vitarelli (1G) and the Knighthawks were suddenly down 11-7. Church scored just over a minute later and the rest of the game would have no goals from either team as the Rochester comeback fell well short. Final Score: Rochester-7, Saskatchewan-12.
