Calgary’s troubles continue as they would lose by the score of 15-9 to the San Diego Seals, putting the Roughnecks in third place in the western division.

“We need to be better than we were tonight,” he said. “We need to clean up some things and make sure that the lows aren’t the big lows that they are. We keep digging ourselves in a hole and we’re not digging ourselves out.” – Coach Malawsky

Chris Bouchy opened the scoring for the Roughnecks, with a shot that squeaked though the pads of Seals keeper (92) Frank Scigliano. The Roughnecks would take an early two goal lead on a bouncer from the league leading scorer Dane Dobbie (44).  San Diego would tie the game at two, one which was a blind little backhander that found a gap low between the stick and leg of Roughnecks tender Del Bianco.

Calgary troubles continued, as Curtis Dickson (17) tossed an errant underhand pass to point man Rhys Duch (18) on the power-play which turned into a shorthanded goal for the Seals. Calgary started showing some fire towards the end of the first quarter but was unable to solve Scigliano.  Trailing 8-5 at the half Calgary headed to the locker room to review what wasn’t working while playing catch up lacrosse in the second half.

“Going into the half it was close but then they went bang, bang, bang,” said Malawsky. “When we were low, it was real low tonight.

Calgary was unable to gain any momentum in the third, trailing 14-7.

Del Bianco was fired up in the fourth making outstanding saves for the Roughnecks. Dickson (17) was double teamed and thrown to the ground in front of the Seals crease; then Dobbie and (17) Brody Merrill locked horns resulting in major penalties for both teams.  Dickson’s first goal of the season came at the 9:33 mark of the fourth quarter making it two Roughneck goals in eighteen seconds.   Final Score:  Seals 15—Roughnecks 9.

“There’s no question that there was some positives in the fourth quarter,” said Malawsky. “Guys stood up and battled for each other. Dobbie got into it and showed some heart. We need some more of that. We’re going to build off of that fourth quarter.”

“We need everyone to chip in and get one or two. We need to spread the ball and spread the work for 60 minutes or we’re not going to be successful on Sunday.”

  1. Thank you for not referring to us as the “Roughies” this time! And how about the tilt between Dobbie and Merrill? Not afraid to go above and beyond his weight/height class!!
