Tom Coyne grew up on Long Island; played Lacrosse at Ward Melville High School; and was a member of the 1978 New York State High School LAX Championship squad (24-0). He was also the Team Captain for Suffolk County Community College 1980. Tom participated in tournaments from The World Cup in 1994; Manchester England (Inaugural World Cup Master Division) as well as Vail and Hawaii.
In the inaugural Midwest Club Lax Tournament in St. Louis, Tom was a member of the Houston squad that won The Championship in 1987. Part of the North Texas Men’s Club Lacrosse scene since 1985 (Fort Worth “Zoo Team”, Southlake Cobras). Tom started coaching in 2003 at Southlake Junior High (JV then with the Varsity in 2005); coached in Colleyville 2008-2017.
In 2008, his son Nick’s Senior Year, the Panthers won the first of two Texas High School State Titles (2008 D3 and 2016 D2). He referees and announces for his indoor Lacrosse Summer League. Nick is also a photographer and will be capturing the MLL action like a pro for “Lacrosse is Awesome” from ‘The Star ‘ in Frisco, TX. Nick plays Box and Field Lacrosse and is the co-founder of The Dallas Box Lacrosse League, the DBLL.org.
Lacrosse runs in the family, not only has Tom had a successful lacrosse career as a player, but also has a coach; son Nick was on the 2008 Colleyville State Championship Team; has participated in the NLL’s Combine; and at the LASNAI Tournament where he played with an all Canadian Team. He has coached at Colleyville and currently coaches for Highland Park Lacrosse. Nick is quick on his feet both on and off the field. He has a custom stringing business,”Chillax customs” and is the online manager for Kong Lax in Plano, TX. He is hoping the NLL will also be coming to the Big D soon!!
