In last weekend’s Major League Lacrosse action the Rochester Rattlers (4-4) took on the New York Lizards (3-4) in front of a crowd of 4,329 at Shuart Stadium on Saturday June 17. This matchup surely wouldn’t disappoint Lizard’s fans as it was a career night for Paul Rabil who scored his 500th career point and the action didn’t stop there as it would come down to the final minutes as Rochester would unfortunately fall to the Lizards. Final Score: Lizards 13—Rochester 12.
The first quarter would see great play from each team on both sides of the field. It would be New York’s Curtis Dickson getting the first tally of the night at 3:09 to put the Lizards up 1-0. However, the Rattlers would go on a three-goal run that would get started with John Ranagan at 5:12; followed by Ryan McNamara; and Kyle Denhoff giving Rochester a 3-1 lead. New York would answer back as they would net two in the final minutes of the quarter with Matt Gibson finding the back of the net at 12:29; followed by Dickson who would net his second of the night at 14:34 making it a 3-3 game at the end of the first.
Just like the first quarter the second would be the same back and forth battle between the teams. Again Rochester would strike first from Jordan Wolf who found the back of the net at 1:28 making it 4-3. New York answered right back a minute later as Ryan Walsh would tie the game at four apiece. Rochester’s Wolf would net his second of the night at 5:55 putting the Rattlers up again. Lizards Joe Walters capitalized on a power-play opportunity and the game was tied again. However, Rochester had other plans as Jeremy Boltus would find the back of the net at 9:04 giving the Rattlers a 6-5 lead heading into the half.
The third quarter would still be a ping pong type of game. New York would strike quickly as Dickson would net a hat-trick on the night at just 31 seconds into the frame tying the game yet again. Ranagan would net his second of the night giving the Rattlers the lead 7-6. New York rattled off the next two scores from Gibson and Walsh both their second of the night making it 8-7. The Rattlers hit back with another three-goal run with Jeremy Boltus getting things started netting his second followed by Ranagan with his fourth; and Wolf netting a hat-trick of his own at the 11:00 mark giving Rochester a 10-8 lead. The Lizards would strike back with Walters netting his second of the night making it 10-9 at the end of the third still in favor of Rochester.
Unfortunately, the Lizards would take over the fourth quarter as they would outscore the Rattlers 4-2. It would be Paul Rabil starting it off with his 500th career goal only 20 seconds in; Walters (2G) giving him four on the night; and Dave Lawson would be the other lone scorer for New York. Rochester’s two goals would come from Zed Williams but it wouldn’t be enough as the Lizards would take this one 13-12.
The Rochester Rattlers are back in action tonight Saturday June 24th at 7:30 p.m. when they will host the Atlanta Blaze (2-5). The Blaze have not won a game since June 3 when they narrowly defeated the Charlotte Hounds by the score of 10-18 and they are itching for a win.
