On Saturday April 29, the Atlanta Blaze (1-1) would host their second home game of the regular season.  This game saw the Boston Cannons (1-1) venture into the Fire Pit of the Atlanta Blaze where after a tremendous effort by both teams, the Blaze held off the Cannons to win 13-10.

Atlanta scored first only 53 seconds in off an assisted shot from Matt Mackrides.  For the next six minutes the goalies held strong. Boston would break the drought with another unassisted goal from Joe LoCascio at 6:25.  Justin Pennington would be next to score putting the Blaze up by one with just under four minutes to play.  But Boston would tie it up at 13:51 off a bullet from Will Manny.  Boston hung tight in this slugfest between two skilled teams. Though the scouring output was low in the first quarter with each team notching 2 goals apiece, there were many highlights as Goalie Adam Ghitelman made his first start of the season; and he did not disappoint the enthusiastic crowd.  He was on fire and it showed. Score at the end of one:  Atlanta 2—Boston 2.

On several Boston offensive opportunities Ghitelman came up big against the best the Cannons had to offer. He made impossible saves; stayed cool in the crease; delivered pinpoint clearing passes; and even cleared the ball himself on occasion.

The second quarter scoring was led by goals from, Mackrides (unassisted at 1:03), but again Boston would tie it up at 2:41 off a shot from Alex Zomerfeld.  Atlanta would start a three goal run when Greg Coholan would notch two back-to-back unassisted goals at 4:06 and 5:04; followed by Terry Kimener at 6:12. Boston would close it out with two of their own from Sean Lawton with a 2pt power-play goal at 9:10 and the final in the second coming off Michael Begley at 12:04.  At the end of the first half the score was still tied:  Atlanta 6—Boston 6.

Atlanta returned from halftime heated up and scored first with a goal from Dyan Donahue on the power-play. LoCascio would score unassisted again at 5:23; followed by Zomerfeld 90 seconds later.  Chris Bocklet would score for the Blaze on the power-play at 9:19.  Boston would quickly answer back with a shot from David Emala.  The two teams traded goals during the third quarter until the 11:32 mark when “Player of the Game” Coholan (4 goals 1 assist) would lead the Blaze in scoring five unanswered goals, right into the fourth quarter. James Pannell would close out the third at 12:15.  Score at the end of the third:  Atlanta 10—Boston 9.

The fourth would be all Blaze.   Bocklet; Dylan Donahue and Mackrides (power-play) each scored a goal to give the Blaze the commanding lead. The Cannons could not overcome the score deficit, as they committed three penalties (two minutes man down) within the last minute of the fourth quarter giving chase to the Blaze.    Cannons David Earl would close out the fourth with an unassisted goal with just under three minutes to play.  Final Score:  Blaze 13—Cannons 10.

This weekend the Blaze have the bye week and Boston (1-1) will host the Chesapeake Bayhawks (0-1) for their home opener at Harvard Stadium.
