On Saturday May 6, 2017 the Boston Cannons (1-2) came out with a boom in their home opener against the Chesapeake Bayhawks (1-1) and earned a 14-9 halftime lead. The home crowd of 4,580 cheering fans in the rain soaked Harvard Stadium held firm in their seats.  Final Score:  Bayhawks 19—Cannons 18.

The second half was all Chesapeake and Myles Jones. The Bayhawks outscored the Cannons 10-4 in the second half. The strong half led to a 19-18 victory for the visiting Bayhawks.

Bayhawks midfielder Myles Jones had five goals and four assists. Garrett Thul had a huge game for the Bayhawks with six goals. The two combined for 11 of the 19 goals for the team.

Bayhawks faceoff man Charlie Raffa left the game early with an injury and was seen on crutches at half time with a brace on his right knee.  The Bayhawks also switched goalies at the half when Niko Amato came in for Brian Phipps

Attackmen for the Cannons, Davey Emala; Will Manny; and Kylor Bellistri all had hat-tricks in the first half. The same trio was held to only two goals in the second half.

Kyle Jackson had his first career MLL goal and an assist so he finished the game with two points.

Both teams came into the game with the worst defenses in the MLL.

The Bayhawks move to 1-1 on the young season while the Cannons fall to 1-2.

Cannons defenseman James Fahey said “We were way too worried on one guy but that’s a poor excuse. We have to play 6 on 6 defense. We can’t let one guy dictate how we mentally play with each other. Again another great learning lesson for the next week.”

Cannons attackman Will Manny said “We scored 18 goals and expected to win that game. But if the defense is struggling, it’s on the offense to score one or two more and we didn’t. We have to finish games especially if we start fast.”

Next weekend on Saturday May 13, the Cannons will host the Rochester Rattlers (1-1), and the Bayhawks head to Charlotte to face the Hounds (0-3) on
