Six Nations Snipers Week Three 1/21/17

The Six Nations Snipers played their second game at home Saturday January 24, 2017 and earned their second win of the season in perhaps one of the best Arena Lacrosse League games so far this season. Throughout the game Six Nations and the Toronto Monarchs traded off goals and each went on runs of their own in this back and forth contest. Matt Lyons who once played in the NLL for the Boston Blazers scored the first goal of the game putting Toronto up one. Snipers forwards Stu Hill and Layne Smith each scored giving the Snipers the lead at the end of the first.

In the second Layne Smith scored another three (hat-trick) while Stu Hill got his second of the game and righty forward Travis Longboat scored as well.  Toronto would hit right back with goals from Matt Lyons; Jayson Crawford; Patrick Miles; Mike Teeter; Shane Scott; and Jordan Critch.

In the third, the Snipers went on a three goal run and Toronto was never able to regain the lead, although they did tie it up on a couple of occasions. Haodais Maracle put away the go ahead goal at 13-12. With both Rayce Vyse and Patrick Corbett each scoring their second of the game; and Tyler Albrecht putting the final notch on the board giving the Snipers the 16-13 victory.

In net Chase Martin had 28 saves; on the face-off Patrick Corbett went 13-21 and Marty Hill was 7-12 but they were still able to get Six Nations the possessions they needed. Some of the offensive leaders for the Snipers were Haodais Maracle (7P) Danton Miller, Layne Smith (6P). Roger Vyse (5P).  Six Nations now sits second in league standings and looks for another home win on Saturday January 29 when they take on St. Catherine’s at the ILA.

Six Nations Snipers Week Four 1/28/17

The Six Nations Snipers may have been playing at the ILA Saturday night but were the road team. The reason being their opponent, St. Catherine’s Shock Wave also play their home games at the ILA this winter.  With that being said the Snipers could still feel the love from the hometown crowd.

Lefty forward Danton Miller got the first goal of the night off a pass from Haodais Maracle, but it would be a back contest between both teams for the remainder of the first half.

Six Nations took control of the game in the second where things got heated between Snipers defender Marcus Elvin and Shock Waves forward Chris Attwood. In net, Warren Hill made numerous great saves closing the door on St. Catherine’s multiple times throughout the night.

While on offense Roger Vyse led the team with six points and “Player of the Game” honors. Travis Longboat and Haodais each chipped in with five points while Danton Miller and Patrick Corbett each had four. The former Lehigh University player Corbett not only scored points on offense but also played some solid defense pushing the ball in transition and took draws for the Snipers.  Tom Montour; Ashton Jacobs and Martin Whittaker also played a big part in the transition game scoring goals. Martin took draws versus Shock Waves Mike Attwood when Corbett did not.

For St. Catherine’s Josh Becker was their leading scorer with four goals and two assists. This week the Arena Lacrosse League will just have one game on the schedule when Six Nations travels Saturday night February 4, 2017 to take on the Paris River Wolves who are on a winning streak of their own.
