Two days after the Black Wolves placed Chad Culp on the First Level Injured Reserve List, they have signed another former Buffalo Bandit in Daryl Veltman. Veltman started the season with the Bandits, but was released on February 14. His unemployment did not last long as New England signed him to a one year contract on February 22.
Chad Culp was a spark for the Black Wolves so far this year, tallying eight goals and thirteen assists. His most memorable goal was the overtime winner against Rochester in New England on February 3. He fit in well with the offensive group and will be a tough spot to fill.
Daryl Veltman has quite the record himself though. Drafted first overall by the expansion Boston Blazers in the 2008 Entry Draft, he has scored 161 regular season goals and 18 more in the playoffs since his rookie 2009 season. That year he was named Rookie of the Week twice, and Rookie of the Month in both January and February. He has played with Boston, Calgary and Buffalo. He is the nephew of current Black Wolves assistant coach Jim Veltman, an NLL hall of famer.
Let’s give Daryl a warm welcome to Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday February 26 when the Black Wolves host the Mammoth!
