Lacrosse is Awesome

The Metropolitan State University of Denver Men’s Lacrosse team headed to Ft. Collins, Colorado to compete against the Colorado State University Rams, and the Colorado State University Pueblo Wolves.  It was beautiful day of lacrosse with a gorgeous view of the mountains in the background.  Field conditions were deplorable.  There was about half an inch of water puddled on the field; mud and spongy conditions.  The perfect conditions for games with pulled groins; torn MCL’s; muddy cleats; and muddy knees.  MSU would head into the tourney with the record of 2-0; however they were no match for the large squads on both CSU teams which each had at least 50 players opposed to MSU’s number of around 25.  MSU would be defeated in both games.  CSU 12—MSU 9; and CSU Pueblo 11—MSU 5.

In the first game the Rams would come out gunning quickly and put the first point on the board.  But MSU would keep right with them through the entire game.  Several MSU players were injured during the contest, midfielders Kyle Miller and Adam Legaretta as well as attackman Mitchell Larson.  This would cost them dearly as the players were frustrated with the field conditions.  Jake Miller, freshman in net for Metro was spectacular with numerous saves on the day.  Tristan Darnell and My-t Fayia would host the spot at “X” for the contest.

Anthony SanFillipo would notch a sock-trick (6G) anthonyin the 40 minutes of play; Mitchell Larson would put up four; My-t Fayia and Adam Legaretta both with one. Sam Low came away with two assists.  Final Score:  CSU Rams 12—MSU Roadrunners 9.

In the second game already down one player from an injury during the first ten minutes of play in Game 1 as well as Joshua Davis who was injured prior to their game against the Colorado School of Mines, the Roadrunners with only thirty minutes of down time would have to face the CSU Pueblo Wolves.  Again, MSU would play tough in the first 20 minutes of play ahead 4-1, but the Wolves would put up three unanswered goals and tie the game 4-4 just before the end of the half .

Unfortunately for the Roadrunners, it was all CSU Pueblo in the second half when they would put up seven goals in the period versus one more goal from Metro.  They would see Anthony SanFillipo and Logan Bruss each put two on the board; and Sam Low sam-low-2would close out the scoring for the Roadrunners.  Again, Jake Miller would hold tough in net but the offensive lines that the Wolves were running and their finesse on the field were more than the rookie freshman could handle.  Final Score: CSU Pueblo 11—MSU 5.

In watching the Roadrunners over the past four games, I’ve seen a lot of talent on the field not only on offense, but on defense as well.  Jake Millerjake-miller is handling his own between the pipes and stopping the hot shots.  If the Roadrunners can continue to play with consistency; get healthy; and yearn for the drive to make it to the play-offs in 2017, they will be tough to beat.

Next up they head to Peter Barton Stadium on the campus of the University of Denver to face the DU Men’s Lacrosse club and their campus rivals University of Colorado Denver on Saturday November 5, 2016.
