Lacrosse is Awesome
July 2nd, 2016 the Rochester Rattlers (5-4) took on the Boston Cannons (6-5) at Aquinas Institute in front of a crowd of 1,514 hopeful fans. The Rattlers were riding a five-game win streak that started over a month ago when their last loss came at the hands of the Boston where the Cannons took a 15-14 overtime victory. This time around it would be Boston taking the victory in regulation with a score of 13-7.
Rochester would strike first in this second match up as Jordan Wolf would find the back of the net at the 1:57 mark unassisted. Rattler’s Kip Orban would then hook up with John Ranagan at 2:36 putting Rochester up 2-0. Boston would make it even at 2-2 as the Cannons Justin Turri would hit a two-point shot at 4:12. Wolf put the Rattlers back ahead 3-2 at 6:28 netting his second goal of the night. The remainder of the first period would be all Boston as they would go on a four-goal run. It would be Boston’s Will Manny getting things started as he would make it a 3-3 game at 7:07. Boston would get goals from Brent Adams; David Emala; and another from Manny for his second of the night giving the Cannons a 6-3 lead at the end of the first period.
The second period of play would be a defensive standstill for both sides as neither team could find the back of the net. Eventually after an entire period of play Boston would get one at 14:47 from Kylor Bellistri giving Boston a 7-3 lead heading into halftime.
The third period of play would be the like the second, however Boston would find the answer to get three goals. It would be Adams scoring for Boston with the feed from Manny to net the first score of the period at 3:23 making it an 8-3 game. Nearly ten minutes of play would tick off the clock before Boston would score again as Josh Hawkins would get the unassisted goal at 13:15. Boston netted their third goal of the period from Emala for his second of the night at 14:59 making it a 10-3 game at the end of the third period.
Rochester’s offense would finally show some signs of life as they would get the fourth period started with a three-goal run. Getting things started for the Rattlers would be Jeremy Boltus at 2:41 making it 10-4. Rochester’s next two scores would come from Ty Thompson at 6:04; and then Michael Lazore at 7:22 making it 10-6. Boston, however would go on their second run of the game rattling off the next three scores the first off Emala getting the hat trick at 9:20; followed by Kevin Buchanan and Max Seibald putting the Cannons up 13-6. Rochester would net the last goal of the game off Wolf at 12:54, his second of the night making it a 13-7 game with Boston taking the victory.
With the loss Rochester now falls to the number four spot in the standings behind the Bayhawks; Lizards; and Hounds. The Rattlers will be home again July 16th as they take on the first place Charlotte Hounds.
