On Saturday June 25, the Rochester Rattlers (5-3) traveled to Ohio Dominican Stadium to face the Ohio Machine (6-4) in front of a crowd of 1,374.  This would be the second meeting between the two teams, with the Rattlers sweeping the series.  However, this last victory for the Rattlers would require them to have a big fourth quarter of play in order to get a 16-13 win over the Machine.

It would be a back and forth first period of play but it would be Rochester netting the first two goals of the game with the first coming from John Ranagan (Denhoff) at the 3:06 mark; and Jordan Wolf finding the back of the net at 6:45 to put Rochester up 2-0.  The Machine would finally find the back of the net grabbing the next two scores from Marcus Holman who would get credit for the back-to-back goals coming at 8:41 and 8:57 both of which the Machine were man-down making it a 2-2 game.  Rochester would make it 3-2 on a goal from Jordan MacIntosh at 11:30.  Ohio’s Kyle Harrison would even it up at 3-3 at 13:40.  Score at the end of one:  Rattlers 3—Ohio 3.

The second period would be a standstill for both teams as there would be nearly eight minutes of play before the scoring started for either side when Machine’s Mark Cockerton would net the first score of the period at 7:52 putting the Machine up 4-3.  Ohio would then go up 5-3 getting a score from Peter Baum at 8:34 unassisted.  Rochester would turn it around and go on a four goal run with Jack Near; Jeremy Boltus; Wolf for his second of the night; and Jesse King hitting net putting Rochester up 7-5 heading into the half.

Rochester’s King would get the scoring started in the third period netting his second of the night at 3:48 making it an 8-5 game.  The Rattlers would add another at 6:54 from Ty Thompson making it 9-5.  The Machine went on a three goal run of their own, as Baum would get his second of the night at 7:45, a two-pointer making it 9-7.  The Machine’s Holman would end up with the hat-trick at 7:53 putting Ohio to within one 9-8.  Ohio would tie it up at 14:21 off Cockerton’s second goal of the night.  It would be all even at 9-9 heading into the fourth.

The Machine would get the lead back after just 38 seconds of play in the fourth period as Tom Schreiber would find the back of the net unassisted making it 10-9.  Rochester’s Ty Thompson would then net his second of the night just 30 seconds later at 1:06 tying it up once again 10-10.  Ohio’s Cockerton would get his hat-trick on the night at the 2:10 mark making it 11-10.  Rochester would go on another run as Wolf would get it started at 3:07 for the hat-trick.  Ty Thompson netted the next two for Rochester giving him a hat-trick on the night, and four goals total putting the Rattlers up 13-11.  Ohio got one back from Schreiber at 7:18 giving him two on the night making it 13-12.  Rochester went up 15-12 as King would net one at 8:08 and Ty Thompson would send his fifth between the pipes at 11:08.  The Machine’s Kyle Harrison would put the Machine within two at 13:10 making it 15-13.  However, Rochester’s Wolf would net his fourth of the night at 14:53 giving the Rattler’s the 16-13 victory over the Machine.

Rochester has now rattled off five straight wins; with this current streak it has moved them from the bottom of the standings in the league to second place just one game behind the New York Lizards.  Rochester also stands in the fifth position for goals scored so far this season; in addition holds first place for goals scored against as they have only given up 97 goals on the season.  The Rattlers will be riding this current winning streak when they take on the Boston Cannons at home on July 2nd.
