Kennesaw, GA— The Atlanta Blaze will return home to play their second home game of the season at Fifth Third Bank on Saturday, May 14 th at 5PM. Coming off their second loss of the season, two weeks ago. The Blaze will be filled with raw emotions as they seek out their first win against the Denver Outlaws. The Blaze having a bye week last weekend are rested up and ready to win. Denver who lost 14-13 in an overtime game against the Ohio Machine last weekend will be motivated by their near win. The Outlaws who had the lead in the first quarter with goals by Drew Snider and Greg Melaugh. Ryan LaPlante, Denver’s rookie Goaltender tallied nine saved on 14 shots for a .643. In overtime, Greg Puskuldjian won the opening faceoff. However, LaPlante couldn’t stop the game winning goal.
On the Blaze bench, Kevin Rice is leading the team with 10 Goals and 2 assists with a total of 12 points. Following Rice is Jay Carlson, with a total of 5 points including 1 assist and four goals.
Looking forward to this weekend, Carlson, “We’re excited to get another chance to prove ourselves. Most of the guys in this locker room have rarely been 0-2 to start a season so there is a sense of urgency to get this W. Our coaches and players believe we have the ability to win against any team, so we look forward to this next challenge. We are excited to get our first win, and hopefully it will be Atlanta, this Saturday.”
Conrad Oberbeck has had 4 goals, 2 groundballs and 1 turnover along with a hat trick this season.
“I’m really excited to get back together with the team after our bye week. I think we are going to come back with a strong focus on Denver this week. We have been improving each game this year, and I’m confident of that we will put it together this week in front of our home fans. I know that our chemistry is really starting to click as our attack unit last game played more in sync, and our flow and understanding of where each other are is only going to get better from here on out. I’m very optimistic about this weekend and look forward to laying it all out there for our home fans,” Oberbeck stated.
In the game against the Boston Cannons, Henry Schoonmaker and Kevin Cooper both scored their first goals of season.
“The men are really excited to come back home to Atlanta and play another game in front of our awesome fans. Everyone on the team is obsessed over winning our first game together,” said Cooper.
When asked about this week’s matchup, midfielder, Henry Schoonmaker, “I’m ready to be back in Atlanta. Each game we have become better on the field and closer as friends off the field. I’m excited to keep growing and start a winning tradition in front of our home fans this week.”
