TOWSON, Md. – Towson men’s lacrosse continued its torrid run through the regular season on Saturday, besting Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe University of Massachusetts 11-8 at Garber Field. The Tigers remained steady in this week’s polls with the win and only a few upsets during the past week.
Towson (10-1, 2-0 CAA) held its No. 7 spot in this week’s Nike Lacrosse/USILA Coaches’ Poll. The Tigers earned 312 points in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association rankings and were the only members of the CAA to be named in this week’s rankings. Yale was first with 426 points and 10 first-place votes, edging Notre Dame’s 422 points and 11 first-place votes. Denver was third with 378 points, followed by Maryland at 368. Brown picked up the final first-place vote and was fifth this week with 359 points.
In the Cascade/Maverik Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, Towson held steady as the No. 6 ranked team. The Tigers collected 431 points this week as Towson is one of two 10-win teams in the Media Poll’s Top 10. The Tigers were the only CAA team to garner recognition in the Media Poll for week nine. Notre Dame was ranked first by the media, picking up 551 points and 17 first-place votes. Yale was second with 548 points and 10 first-place votes, while Denver rounded out the top three with 528 points and two first-place nods.
Towson also held firm at No. 6 in this week’s Nike Lacrosse/Lacrosse Magazine Top 20. Once again, Notre Dame was first, followed by Yale and Denver. Two other CAA teams were mentioned in this week’s Lacrosse Magazine Top 20 as both Fairfield and UMass received votes.
