TOWSON, Md. – Despite its biggest offensive output in a conference game since 2009, the Towson men’s lacrosse team dropped in two of the three national polls this week, while remaining steady in a third ranking.
Towson (11-2, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) dropped from 10th to No. 12 in this week’s Nike Lacrosse/USILA Coaches’ Poll. The Tigers picked up 150 points in a poll of United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association head coaches. Denver (11-1) was the top-ranked team with 334 points and 11 first place votes, followed by Brown (12-1) with 318 points and five first-place nods, with Maryland rounding out the top three behind 306 points and one first-place selection.
The Tigers, who topped CAA foe Fairfield 18-11 on Saturday, moved back one spot in the Cascade/Maverik Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to No. 13 after a week in the 12th slot. Towson picked up 231 points this week, with Denver in at No. 1 on 553 points and 21 first-place votes. Brown was second with 533 points and six first-place votes with Maryland in third with 493 points and one first place selection.
Towson held firmly at No. 11 in this week’s Nike Lacrosse/Lacrosse Magazine Top 20. The Lacrosse Magazine Top 20 had a different top three from the other major polls, ranking Brown first, Denver second with Notre Dame in at third.
The Tigers’ next opponent, Hofstra, was the only other CAA program to earn mention in this week’s polls, picking up votes in both the Cascade/Maverik Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and the Nike Lacrosse/Lacrosse Magazine Top 20.
Towson heads to Hempstead, New York for a clash of 3-1 conference teams. Towson squares off with Hofstra at 1 p.m. from Shuart Stadium. Towson could clinch the 2016 CAA Regular Season Championship with a win over the Pride and the right to host the 2016 CAA Championship at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
