Freshman Defenseman Honored by B1G For First Time

ROSEMONT, IL – Johns Hopkins freshman defenseman Patrick Foley (Winchester, MA/St. John’s Prep) has been named the Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Freshman of the Week for his efforts in Johns Hopkins’ 12-11 overtime win at 14th-ranked Penn State on Sunday. Johns Hopkins improved to 7-4 on the year with the victory against the Nittany Lions.

Foley continued his strong play as a member of the Blue Jays’ starting close defense as he notched a career-high three caused turnovers and had one ground ball in the victory. The three caused turnovers are tied for the most by a Johns Hopkins player this season.

Foley has started all 11 games for Johns Hopkins this season and has one goal, 19 ground balls and seven caused turnovers on the year. He is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers, ranks seventh in ground balls and is the only freshman on the team to start all 11 games.

Johns Hopkins (7-4, 2-1 B1G) travels to Michigan (3-8, 0-3 B1G) on Saturday, April 23 for the final regular season road game of the year. The Blue Jays, who are ranked 11th in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll, are making their first-ever trip to Michigan; the game against the Wolverines is set for 5 pm with a live national television audience on the Big Ten Network.
