BALTIMORE, Md. – The Boston University men’s lacrosse team held a 12-10 lead over No. 12/13 Loyola Maryland halfway through the fourth quarter, but the Greyhounds scored the final three goals to earn a 13-12 win on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.

BU (8-5, 3-4 PL) will play for a playoff spot on Friday night at Holy Cross, as the Crusaders defeated Colgate on Saturday. The Terriers are in search of their first-ever postseason berth.

With the game tied, 12-12, BU had the ball with less than a minute to go. The timer went on almost immediately and Loyola forced a turnover when a defender pushed down a Terrier attackman. The Greyhounds then broke the deadlock with 9.9 seconds to play on a man-up goal. BU had one last chance after an unsportsmanlike conduct call on Loyola, but the Terriers were unable to get a final shot on target.

Freshman James Burr finished with four points thanks to a hat trick and an assist while sophomore Ryan Hilburn also recorded four points (2g, 2a). Sophomore Jack Wilson tallied two goals and an assist, with junior Adam Schaal also scoring twice. Junior Chad Bell secured a pair of assists while sophomore Greg Farris joined juniors Ryan Johnston and Cal Dearth with one goal.

Junior Christian Carson-Banister bounced back with a strong game in the cage. He made 15 saves, including six in the fourth quarter as Loyola (9-3, 6-1 PL) mounted its comeback.

Senior Elliott Burr went 16-of-28 at the faceoff X in a strong effort that included two ground balls. Junior Greg Wozniak led the Terriers with four ground balls while classmate Jack Beall added two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Freshman Quintin Germain also gathered three ground balls, with junior Dominick Calisto collecting two ground balls and forcing two giveaways.

The Terriers staked themselves a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Schaal, Wilson and Hilburn. Loyola made it 3-1 entering the second quarter, and despite a goal from Farris, the Greyhounds tallied four of their own to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.

BU opened the second half on a 5-0 run, with Burr scoring two of the five markers, to regain the lead at 9-5. After a Greyhound goal, Johnston converted a man-up chance to make it 10-6.

Loyola and BU traded goals to start the fourth quarter before the Greyhounds got within one at 11-10 with 10:09 to play. A Hilburn goal made it 12-10, but the Greyhounds got two goals in a span of 1:07 to tie the game before the last-second game-winner.
