TOWSON, Md. – After a week out of the top 10 in one of the polls, the Towson men’s lacrosse team has climbed back into the upper half in the three major national rankings this week.
The 8-1 Tigers are ranked 10th in this week’s Nike Lacrosse/USILA Coaches’ Poll, collecting 242 points. The Tigers were ranked 11th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll last week, and remain the highest-ranked team in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The University of Massachusetts was ranked 19th while Hofstra received votes.
In the seventh week of the Cascade/Maverik Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, the Tigers moved up to eighth in the ranking, jumping up one spot from last week’s poll. The Tigers picked up 351 points after Saturday’s win and are the top-ranked CAA team in the media poll. UMass was 19th with 56 points while Hofstra received votes. Towson is the second-highest team in the State of Maryland, just three spots behind No. 5 Maryland.
The Nike Lacrosse/Lacrosse Magazine Top 20 slotted Towson at 10th for a second-straight week. Again, Towson was the highest-ranked CAA team with Massachusetts sitting at 18th while Hofstra received votes.
Yale (7-0) was ranked first by the Coaches’ and Media Polls, while Notre Dame took the top spot in the Lacrosse Magazine rankings. The Fighting Irish were second behind Yale in two polls.
Towson rounds out a three-game home stand on Saturday as the Tigers hit the CAA portion of their schedule. Towson hosts rival Drexel at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium with opening faceoff set for noon. It is the first time in the program’s Division I era (1980) that the Tigers open league play with the Dragons.
