Eleven different Terriers scored; Burr matched career high with four goals

EASTON, Pa. – Eleven different Terriers scored a goal to help lead the Boston University men’s lacrosse team to a 16-4 victory at Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium.

BU (8-2, 3-1 PL) scored five goals in the second quarter to open up a 9-1 lead over Lafayette (1-7, 0-5 PL) at halftime. Freshman James Burr matched his career high with four goals while sophomore Jack Wilson and freshman Brendan Homire each tallied a pair of goals. Wilson also added an assist for a three-point day.

Freshman Michael Laviano (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) logged his first three collegiate points during a career day. He had a pair of assists before notching his first collegiate goal. Junior Pat Myers, freshman Tristan Ruh and junior Cal Dearth also had multiple points with a goal and an assist apiece.

Juniors Michael Carbone, Ryan Johnston and Adam Schaal each found the back of the net, as did sophomore Greg Farris. Junior Allen Winkoff also had a point thanks to an assist.

Senior Elliott Burr was outstanding at the faceoff X, going 10-of-11 with seven ground balls. Junior Sam Talkow was 8-of-10 with seven ground balls and sophomore Joe Stucky won three of the five draws he took while scooping up a ground ball and causing a turnover.

Three Terrier goalkeepers saw time on Saturday, with junior Christian Carson-Banister making two saves to earn the win. Sophomore Colin MacDougall also had a save while freshman Sean McGovern did not allow a goal in his collegiate debut.

Junior Dominick Calisto was one of five Terriers with two caused turnovers on Saturday. Wilson, senior Alex Paroda, and juniors Henry Lee and Cam Pincus also forced a pair of giveaways. The Terriers combined for 16 caused turnovers and 50 ground balls against the Leopards. Paroda and Pincus each had three ground balls, as did juniors Jack Beall and Greg Wozniak.

Strong defense from Calisto helped the Terriers open the scoring early in the first quarter. After he caused a turnover, Beall picked up the ground ball and completed the clear. The ball eventually got to Burr and he found the back of the net.

After goals from Dearth and Homire extended the lead to 3-0, Burr capped the scoring in the quarter when he ran from X, turned slightly and ripped the ball into the top right corner to make it 4-0.

Burr finished his four-goal day with two goals in the second stanza, with Wilson, Schaal and Homire also finding the back of the net. After Lafayette opened the third quarter with a goal to make it 9-2 BU went on a 6-0 run with goals from Myers, Wlson, Farris, Ruh, Johnston and Laviano to take a 15-2 lead with 12:31 remaining in regulation.

Three of the Leopards’ final four goals of the game came during extra-man opportunities, with Carbone adding a man-up goal during that stretch to close the scoring for BU.

The Terriers will return home on Saturday, April 2, when they host Lehigh at Nickerson Field.
