RICHMOND, Va. – After pacing the then No. 16 Towson men’s lacrosse to a season-opening win, junior attackman Joe Seider was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. The conference office made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Seider popped open the new season with three goals and one assist for a four-point night in the Tigers’ (1-0) 11-2 win over visiting Mercer. The Sparks, Maryland native logged his first hat trick since the 2015 CAA Championship game (May 2, 2015) against Massachusetts. Seider also extended his scoring streak to six games, while scoring at least once in 20 of his last 21 appearances.

The junior attackman is familiar with big games to open the season; his three goals and one assist on Friday mark the second time in his career he has scored four points in an opener, including the same stats against High Point (Feb. 8, 2014) in his first collegiate game. Seider has multiple goals in all three of his season openers, helping Towson go unbeaten in those games.

The last time a Tiger won a weekly award from the conference office to begin the season was Feb. 10, 2014 as Seider was named the Rookie of the Week following the aforementioned performance against High Point.

Fairfield’s Colin Burke was named CAA Rookie of the Week after putting up four points (3g, 1a) in the Stags’ season-opening loss at the University of Richmond.

Seider and the Tigers, ranked No. 15 in the latest USILA Coaches’ Poll, return to Johnny Unitas ® Stadium Saturday afternoon for game two of a three-game homestand to begin 2016. Towson squares off with in-state foe Mount St. Mary’s with a 2 p.m. draw.
