Boston Lacrosse Gearing Up To Take on Hartford 2/20/16

On a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field, what’s better to do than watch a collegiate lacrosse game and see the talent blooming with multiple goals and assists by freshman from both Boston and Hartford. Saturday marked the first-ever meeting between the Hawks and Terriers, as Boston University is amidst its third season competing at the NCAA Division I level. Final Score: Hartford 16—Boston 10.

The opponent, University of Hartford was entering their first game of the season with four of their five best scorers returning. The Hawks from Hartford got off to a 3-0 start before the Terriers first score and never looked back.

It was exciting to see the first career goal made by a freshman and that’s what Dylan Jinks of Hartford did to add cushion to the then second period one goal lead. Ten different Terriers scored but the Boston University Men’s Lacrosse team couldn’t overcome Hartford. Boston was entering 3-0 coming off a win against High Point in North Carolina just days before.

The third period found BU trying to close the gap but coming up short. Hartford got hot as it extended a two-goal lead (8-6) to six using a 4-0 run to open the fourth. Four different Hawks contributed to that six minute stretch as Henderson; Van Duzer; freshman Zach Elkinson; and Dulin made it a 12-6 game with 9:08 left to play. Both teams would score another four apiece. Final Hartford 16—Boston 10.

At the X, the Hawks received a solid performance from Protesto, who went 14-25 with a team-best six ground balls.

Next weekend marks the beginning of Patriot League play, with the Terriers welcoming Navy to Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
