ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Chesapeake Bayhawks announced Friday that they received a 2017 first round college pick and three players (midfielders Tyler German and Greg Coholan, as well as attackman Ryan Young) from the Boston Cannons in exchange for goalie Tyler Fiorito and a 2017 seventh round supplemental draft pick.

“This deal makes sense for both teams,” Bayhawks Head Coach Brian Reese said. “Tyler is one of, if not the best, goalies in the MLL. We respect him as a teammate and player and wish him the best of luck in Boston. We completed this trade because we thought it helped the Bayhawks in both the short term and long term.”

The 2017 supplemental pick will turn into a third round draft choice if Young plays five or more games in 2016. Fiorito was selected by the Bayhawks in 2012 out of Princeton, and played in 23 games in his career with the team. In 2015, he emerged as the team’s premier goalie, playing in all 14 games and finishing with an 11.99 goals against average.

“We are getting two players who can help us right away in Young and German,” Reese said. “Both are young, energetic and athletic players with MLL experience. In addition, the rights to Greg Coholan and a 2017 draft pick will help us in the immediate future. We are still confident in the crew of goalies that we currently have on our roster and feel like we have gotten stronger in other positions. ”

After a collegiate career at University of Maryland, Young entered the MLL in 2011 and contributed as a top scorer for Long Island, Charlotte and Boston. Last season he notched three goals in 10 games for the Cannons.

In 2015, German’s first MLL season, a shoulder injury shortened his campaign to just four games. In this time, he recorded eight ground balls. Coholan was selected sixth overall in the 2016 MLL Draft after a storied career at the University of Virginia where he was an honorable mention All-American and led the team with 39 goals and 53 points during his senior season.
