The game started off with Towson dominating the face off and put the first notch on the score board at 1:09 by today’s offensive powerhouse, #22 Ryan Drenner as he bulled his way to the cage from X for an unassisted goal. Ryan had a career-best today finishing the day with four goals and three assists. Georgetown answered back just over two minutes later by #23 Devon Lewis. Towson freshman #38, Jon Mazza, chalked up his first goal of his career kicking off a five goal run by the Tigers.
The Hoyas gave Towson their first man up situation with an unnecessary roughness call allowing last week’s CAA Rookie of the Week, #18 Ian Kirby, to slam one home with an assist from Drenner. Drenner wrapped around from behind the goal to put the ball in the net, unassisted, putting the Tigers up 6-1. Georgetown stopped the bleeding as #44 Daniel Bucaro scored from an assist by #9, Patrick Anslanian. The Hoyas went on a hot streak bringing them within two goals by halftime with a score of 6-4.
Georgetown put in long stick middie (LSM) Riley Mann to help balance the faceoff X and slow down Towson’s #32 Alec Burckley. The Tigers scored twice in the third with goals by Mike Lynch; and Joe Seider with Drenner feeding both. Georgetown’s #15, Corey Park, put the Hoya’s only goal of the third quarter on the board putting the score at 8-5, Towson.
The final quarter had Ian Kirby score again on another man-up situation and Joe Seider also scoring in the quarter. Georgetown balanced the quarter with two goals as well by Daniel Bucaro; and Chris Donovan. The final score had Towson hold onto their lead with a score of 10-7 putting Towson at 3-0.
TOWSON: 41 SOG; 27 GB; 11-20 on face-offs; 3-5 Extra-Man Opps; 7 Turnovers
GEORGETOWN: 35 SOG; 21 GB; 2-20 on face-offs; 1-2 Extra-Man Opps; 14 Turnovers
Towson’s Tyler White played the entire game in between the pipes earning 11 saves.
Towson’s defense was clutch today as senior #20, Mike Lowe, was the leader of the defense at keeping the Hoyas at bay and causing twice as many turnovers as Georgetown turnovers.
#13 Towson’s next battle is against local rival, #6 Loyola this coming Wednesday March 2 at 4 p.m. The first away game for the Tigers and they’ll only have to travel six miles to challenge the Greyhounds. Towson is looking for a little revenge for their 15-11 loss against Loyola last year at home.
